Week 46 walking update

Woburn

Running total (to week 45): 1866

Miles walked in week 46: 40

Total walked so far in 2018: 1906

I worked in the office in London for just one day during week 46 and these are the days I am able to tot up a few extra miles as it is over 5 miles to walk to and from stations and I do around 5 miles in the gym. When I work at home however I can only manage 3 or 4 miles by walking around my local town (e.g. to our big local supermarket or our local retail park) at lunchtime. So still a lower than average mileage rate for this week. Thankfully this was topped up by 10.5 miles today during another lovely autumn walk in Woburn which is not too far from where I live.

Ladybower Reservoir in Derbyshire

Running total (to week 44): 1,843

Miles walked in week 45: 23

Total walked so far in 2018: 1,866

Another below average mileage week as I was still in Grenada from Mon – Wed where I walked no more than a couple of miles a day. However I’ve just spent a weekend where I hiked around 16 miles up and down several peaks in the Peak District (Derbyshire) which has pushed up this weeks’ total a bit!

November weigh-in

Holiday breakfast started like this each morning…

29th October pre-holiday weight: 8 st 2 lb

9th November post-holiday weight: 8 st 9 lb

As I was on holiday for 1st November I’ve included pre and post holiday weights.

Oh dear… a week of all inclusive indulgence resulted in a weight gain of 7 lb! I must say I was a bit reluctant to get on the scales this morning, the first full day back from the holiday 😦

In the past I wouldn’t have faced up to the weight gain and would have ignored the fact my clothes felt a bit tighter… this is how my weight got to 10 st 7 lb by this time last year. However being honest with myself and acknowledging this weight gain has inspired me to get rid of the extra pounds quickly so today I’ll resume calorie counting and up the exercise for the next week or two and see what happens…

Above is a ‘Nutty Russian’ an example of one of the delicious cocktails available. It contains generous measures of:

  • Vodka
  • Tia Maria
  • Baileys
  • Nutmeg

Week 44 walking update

Running total (to week 43): 1,814

Miles walked in week 44: 29

Total walked so far in 2018: 1,843

Less than what has lately become an average of around 50 miles walked each week.  This is because I spent most of week 44 on a relaxing holiday in Grenada where the only walking I did was around the resort hotel! With the exception of a short trek of the ‘Seven Sisters Waterfall’. The falls took around 20 minutes to reach although this was quite challenging being steep and muddy! And as we were not planning on any trekking I did this in sandals rather than walking boots!

This weeks figure is only boosted to 29 as I did 11 miles (walking and gym) on the Monday of this week, before I went on holiday.

Week 43 walking update

Wimpole Estate near Cambridge

Running total (to week 42): 1,762

Miles walked in week 43: 46

Total walked so far in 2018: 1,808

I had two days during this week where I did no extra walking at all… On Thursday I was working at home and just too busy with full-on back-to-back Skype meetings that I didn’t even have time for a lunch break, let alone a 4 mile lunchtime walk.

On Saturday, Chris and I had planned a 6 mile walk to a local pub for lunch and back but unfortunately his elderly father was taken into hospital so we abandoned this, drove to Norfolk, picked up his Mum and took her into visit him in hospital! Hopefully he will soon start to feel better.

Today in lovely sunny (but cold and crisp) weather I did a walk with a local walking group which focussed around the Wimpole Estate which is not far from Cambridge.

Long Melford

Running total (to week 40): 1,663

Miles walked in week 41: 48

Total walked so far in 2018: 1,711

Yesterday I returned from a weekend in Suffolk where I did a 12 mile circular hike around the historic Mediaeval town of Lavenham on Saturday and a 6 mile circular hike around Long Melford on Sunday.

Saturday’s weather was amazing for mid October with warm sunny temperatures of around 23 degrees. This changed literally overnight with Sunday being more typically rainy!

Both walks were rounded off in quaint little tea shops 🙂

Week 40 walking update

Running total (to week 39): 1,614

Miles walked in week 40: 49

Total walked so far in 2018: 1,663

I’ve done no ‘special’ walks this week… no walking clubs and no mini adventures. All 49 miles walked in week 40 have resulted from: walking around my local town; walking to and from work; walking between London offices and walking to and from the station. So nothing exciting but an average of 7 miles a day fitted into my everyday working life.

October weigh-in

Weight today… 8 st 2 lb! Hurrah 🙂

Thankfully I nipped last months’ slight weight gain firmly in the bud and according to my gym scales this morning I’m back to what has become my usual weight of 8 st 2 lb…

Well… my weight did fluctuate slightly throughout September. I soon lost the 3 lb I had gained during an indulgent weekend of gluttony at the end of August; managed to maintain a weight of 8 st 2 lb for 2 – 3 weeks in September; put on 3 lb while on holiday in Croatia but thankfully quickly lost it again within the last week.

I am able to maintain this weight mostly with tons of exercise. If it wasn’t for an average of around 500 calories extra that I burn off each day I certainly wouldn’t be able to keep my weight down!

Week 39 walking update

Makarska

Running total (to week 38): 1,560

Miles walked in week 39: 54

Total walked so far in 2018: 1,614

Having arrived home last Tuesday, this weeks’ walking includes our final day (Monday) in Makarska, Croatia. The first 6 days were lovely and sunny however the last day was a different matter in which we were somewhat battered with a storm! The storm didn’t start until lunchtime and I still managed to walk 9 miles around Makarska on that day!

Today being 30th September means we are now 75% of the way through 2018 already! The good news is that as my revised walking target for this year is 2050 miles I am well on my way to reaching this 🙂

I have 436 miles to go which is an average of around 33.5 miles a week or just under 5 miles a day!
